Marta Zgierska | PL

Tomorrow crumbles in hands

About the project

Marta Zgierska (*1987, Lublin) is a visual artist and photographer. She composes unconventional self-portraits, often moving away from direct exposure of her form towards an implied presence or embodiment through objects. Abstracting scenes and symbols from their natural context, she creates her own lexicon of oppression and dependency, trauma, and survival. Using wood, flesh, or metal, she explores the interplay between nature and civilisation, reflecting on individual vulnerability in a threatening system while addressing issues such as women’s rights and global crises.

The work also explores notions of damage reflected in the body, fragility, and societal pressures for physical perfection in relation to the status of women and the contemporary human condition.
The exhibition is supported by Gowen Contemporary Gallery.
